The organizations listed here are those which have contributed to the O.K.I. project at MIT. We are thankful for their generous support.

In January 2007, M.I.T. announced its intention to form a stable partnership with like-minded organizations to consolidate growing support for the interoperability specifications developed by O.K.I. Over the past year, we have engaged in a number of activities to further this work, such as: continued development of the OSIDs; launching of OpeniWorld; and support of the rapidly growing and successful community of Repository OSID adopters.

In response to the continuing success of O.K.I., the DUE Office of Educational Innovation and Technology at M.I.T. is launching the O.K.I. Phase II Project as part of its educational interoperability initiatives. Phase II is intended to work toward the O.K.I. vision and plan the transition of O.K.I. from an initiative at M.I.T. to a community organization. The following activities will be launched in this Phase of the O.K.I. Project:

Release of key Third Generation OSIDs to provide solutions for specific customer needs; Defining appropriate governance processes to ensure the OSIDs are stable and predictable; and Developing and publishing OSID illustrative documentation

M.I.T. has contributed to the support of this program with direct budget and staff. However achieving the essential activities, which will lead to the sustainability of O.K.I. will require resources beyond MIT’s commitment. To make this project a success, O.K.I. Phase II invites support from all of our partners in two ways: (1) an up-front financial contribution to help fund the project, and (2) active engagement in key O.K.I. project activities and community events.

For more information on contributing to O.K.I. and/or engaging in O.K.I. community project activity please contact:
Middlebury College's Curricular Technology group has been developing curricular applications since 2003 when it first released Segue as open source. In addition to Segue, this group has also developed Concerto, a digital assets management system and Harmoni, an application framework that includes implementations of nearly all the O.K.I. OSIDs.

In 2007, Middlebury College received a Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration for this work.

MIT's Office of Educational Innovation and Technology works with faculty, staff and students to enable and promote the development and dissemination of innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning. This is accomplished through an innovation cycle which involves:

Investigating new and emerging technologies, and exploring opportunities for their adoption to support education at MIT.

Establishing links with MIT departments to monitor emerging innovations and IT needs.

Assisting faculty in locating, building and integrating technologies that support a wide range of pedagogical models.

Supporting MIT initiatives through the development, adoption & implementation of sustainable & educationally valuable software tools.

Implementing test-beds for promising educational technologies and new services, to advance teaching and learning.

Developing plans for the incubation, early implementation, and the transitioning of delivery systems to long-term core service providers.

Engaging with interested MIT departments, labs, and centers to integrate technology into the curriculum.

Work closely with the Teaching and Learning Lab and the Office of Faculty Support to enable and support Educational Innovation at MIT.

OEIT Mission:

The Office of Educational Innovation and Technology engages with the MIT community to develop, disseminate and advance the sustainability of educational innovation through the strategic use of technology.
